student scholarships
Our scholarships help defray the cost of higher education in degree and certificate programs in the fields of health and human services. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote, facilitate, and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of community health care in rural areas. The scholarships will recognize the individual's scholastic achievements, leadership and citizenship attributes, and their role in community wellness.

apprenticeship program
We work with the Alaska Primary Care Association (APCA) to provide apprenticeship program opportunities for our staff. Through this we can build up our workforce and the communities we live in.Â

The APCA is an organization with the mission to advance Alaska's wellness through the support of vibrant and effective Community Health Centers. They work with our organization (and others like ours) to promote, expand, and optimize access to primary care for all Alaskans.
Student Scholarships
Overview
The goal of Sunshine Community Health Center's scholarship program is to increase the health and human services workforce in the Matanuska Susitna Valley, the state, and the country.Â

We will award scholarships, up to $2,000 each. Scholarships will honor those individuals who have had an impact in their community and school, through leadership and willingness to work with and help others. Finalist will be asked to participate in a Zoom interview with the Board of Director's Advocacy Committee.Â

Applications are available January 1, and due by April 1. Funds are available to recipients in June 2024.
Minimum requirementsÂ

Applicants must be a senior in high school and accepted into a higher education degree program or certificate program with a concentration in health care, behavioral health care, or social services.Â

Application must have participated in at least 1 extracurricular or service project.Â

Applicants must complete the essay application.Â

Applicants must have a letter of recommendation from their school counselor (or teacher) and community member.Â

Applicant must include their current unofficial transcript.Â

The counselor or department chair must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate.Â

Essay Requirements
The purpose of this scholarship is to promote, facilitate, and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of community health care in rural areas. The scholarships will recognize the scholastic, leadership, and citizenship attributes of high school students and their role in community wellness. Some of these attributes are a desire to help others, empathy, compassion, and integrity.Â
